Native Women & Children Series
This series of Art Cards are done in monochromatic watercolors to
resemble the actual sepia-toned photographs that inspired them.
I find myself very intrigued by late 19th and early 20th century
photographs of Native American women and children. I wonder what
their daily lives were like, what brought them joy and sadness,
whether they lived long lives or not, and mostly what their
Native American communities would look like today had they not
been invaded and nearly wiped out by European settlers.
I hope that these paintings honor their memory and remind anyone
that views them of the enormous price we all pay when we force
our views, beliefs, and customs on other human beings.
